1. EBT Card
EBT stands for Electronic Benefits Transfer and it is operated by welfare departments to issue benefit payments to recipients electronically via the EBT Card. In the United States, EBT cards are used to make food stamp and cash benefit payments to eligible recipients. Typically, each state operates their own EBT card program, with their own eligibility requirements for who qualifies for benefits and how they apply for benefits and access to EBT accounts. Customers can log-into their EBT accounts and check EBT balance, transaction history, change address and more. The Florida Department of Children and Families runs an EBT card program for the Florida Food Stamps program among other benefit programs. But there is also abuse of the program and here is an example in the video below.
2. Direct Express Card
The Direct Express Card is a prepaid card that is issued by the US Government through the Department of the Treasury. It is used to make electronic payments to those who receive Social Security and other benefit programs like Veterans Affairs payments. For Social Security Benefits, a law has been passed requiring that recipients transition to electronic payments, either through direct deposit payments or through the Direct Express Debit Card, which is managed by Comerica Bank. People with the card can visit the website for Direct Express Login, Account Balance, Transaction History, Change Address and More.
3. EPPICard
Eppicard is a program run by 23 states, including Alabama, California, Florida, Nevada, Ohio, Utah and Virginia. It is used to make Child Support payments and in some cases, unemployment benefits to eligible recipients. The Florida Eppicard and Texas Eppicard are used to run both programs. Some states just run one or the other, like the Pennsylvania card. Usually, the state government contracts with a bank to manage their program. The day to day management of the EPPICard program has been outsourced by the states to ACS, which is owned by Xerox.
