Everyone wants to know how to save big on meat, we are all aware that it’s very rare to find a coupon for fresh meat, so what other options do you have?
Buying in bulk is a great option for saving big on meats if you are getting a good price. Many people are worried about buying bulk packages because they don’t know what to do with all the meat to preserve it over a long period of time.
How to properly freeze uncooked raw chicken breasts.
There’s a few ways you can prepare and freeze raw chicken. You can keep the breast intact or you can go ahead and cut them up into cubes or tenders before freezing. This makes it easier to prepare after thawing, and gives you an automatic variety of cuts when you are ready to cook.
When you freeze uncooked chicken, it can last up to a year in the freezer. Make sure to keep your chicken in the coldest part of your freezer and have it in the proper containers. You can actually buy Reynolds freezer paper to wrap your chicken with – saran wrap or foil would be great options to keep each chicken separate as well. You’ll also need storage bags specifically made for the freezer – I would suggest gallon size bags. Make sure not to stack your chicken in the actual bag, and get out as much air as possible. If you are concerned about keeping the shape of the chicken breast, you will need to let the bags freeze without anything on top of them first, then you can stack them up.
How to properly freeze already cooked chicken breast.
When you freeze already cooked chicken, it can last up to two months in the freezer. To help prolong the time period of your chicken, put a little chicken broth or marinade in with the chicken.
Many people like to do ‘freezer cooking’ which is where they cook anywhere from a week to a month of meals and freeze them. Using bulk quantities of chicken would be ideal for this method of cooking as well.
Always remember to write the date regardless of the chicken being cooked or uncooked!
